This river located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, which practically runs through the region of Galicia, but in its final stretch forms the border between Spain and Portugal before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. It is the longest river in Galicia, and the largest river after the river Sil receives its main tributary. It has a length of 310 km and drains a large basin of 12 486 km. 
Born in the Pedregal de Irimia, Lugo. The Minho flows through the Massif Galician andCantabrian Mountain range and the mountains of Leon, two of the rainiest areas of the Iberian Peninsula, one of the main rivers of the Atlantic. All its upper course has been declared a Biosphere Reserve. in his last 76 km of border between Spain and Portugal,and empties into the Atlantic Ocean forming an estuary between La Guardia (Pontevedra) and Caminha.
Its main tributaries are the rivers Sil, Neira, Avia, Barbantiño, Búbal, Arnoya.
Throughout the course of the river are fish such as trout and eel, and mammals such as the Iberian muskrat and otter.
In the upper vegetation is made ​​up of alluvial forests of alder and ash, oak and Atlanticwet winches.
